"Just Like Us" By Karen Zacarías, Directed by Nina Capriola

 “What makes us American?”

Based on Helen Thorpe’s bestselling book, this documentary-style play follows four Latina teenage girls in Denver—two of whom are documented and two who are not—through young adulthood. Their close-knit friendships begin to unravel when immigration status dictates the girls’ opportunities, or lack thereof. When a political firestorm arises, each girl’s future becomes increasingly complicated. Just Like Us poses difficult, yet essential questions about what makes us American.

The Murder of Rasputin
Staged Reading
July 18, 28
THE MURDER OF RASPUTIN By Carol Marquart,  A Staged Reading

This is a story of the murder of Grigori Efimevich Rasputin on December 17, 1916.  A simple Siberian peasant, Rasputin was many things to many people.  To his daughter, Maria, he was a holy but imperfect man.  To his assassin Prince Felix Yusupov, he was an imposter and the Antichrist who crawled out of the dark ages.  To The Tsarina Alexandra, he was Father Grigory, her savior and an envoy from God.  What was the source of Rasputin’s power, and why did his gruesome murder mark the beginning of the end of Tsarist Russia?  This staged{cke_protected}{C}%3C!%2D%2D%5Bif%20gte%20vml%201%5D%3E%3Cv%3Ashapetype%0A%20id%3D%22_x0000_t75%22%20coordsize%3D%2221600%2C21600%22%20o%3Aspt%3D%2275%22%20o%3Apreferrelative%3D%22t%22%0A%20path%3D%22m%404%405l%404%4011%409%4011%409%405xe%22%20filled%3D%22f%22%20stroked%3D%22f%22%3E%0A%20%3Cv%3Astroke%20joinstyle%3D%22miter%22%2F%3E%3Cv%3Aformulas%3E%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22if%20lineDrawn%20pixelLineWidth%200%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22sum%20%400%201%200%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22sum%200%200%20%401%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%402%201%202%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%403%2021600%20pixelWidth%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%403%2021600%20pixelHeight%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22sum%20%400%200%201%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%406%201%202%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%407%2021600%20pixelWidth%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22sum%20%408%2021600%200%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22prod%20%407%2021600%20pixelHeight%22%2F%3E%0A%20%20%3Cv%3Af%20eqn%3D%22sum%20%4010%2021600%200%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fv%3Aformulas%3E%3Cv%3Apath%20o%3Aextrusionok%3D%22f%22%20gradientshapeok%3D%22t%22%20o%3Aconnecttype%3D%22rect%22%2F%3E%0A%20%3Co%3Alock%20v%3Aext%3D%22edit%22%20aspectratio%3D%22t%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fv%3Ashapetype%3E%3Cv%3Ashape%20id%3D%22officeArt_x0020_object%22%20o%3Aspid%3D%22_x0000_s1026%22%0A%20type%3D%22%23_x0000_t75%22%20style%3D'position%3Aabsolute%3Bmargin-left%3A35pt%3Bmargin-top%3A22pt%3B%0A%20width%3A202pt%3Bheight%3A249pt%3Bz-index%3A1%3Bvisibility%3Avisible%3Bmso-wrap-style%3Asquare%3B%0A%20mso-wrap-distance-left%3A12pt%3Bmso-wrap-distance-top%3A12pt%3B%0A%20mso-wrap-distance-right%3A12pt%3Bmso-wrap-distance-bottom%3A12pt%3B%0A%20mso-position-horizontal%3Aabsolute%3Bmso-position-horizontal-relative%3Apage%3B%0A%20mso-position-vertical%3Aabsolute%3Bmso-position-vertical-relative%3Apage'%0A%20wrapcoords%3D%220%200%200%2021600%2021600%2021600%2021600%200%200%200%22%20strokeweight%3D%221pt%22%3E%0A%20%3Cv%3Astroke%20miterlimit%3D%224%22%2F%3E%0A%20%3Cv%3Aimagedata%20src%3D%22file%3A%2F%2F%2FC%3A%5CUsers%5CANDREA~1%5CAppData%5CLocal%5CTemp%5Cmsohtmlclip1%5C01%5Cclip_image001.jpg%22%0A%20%20o%3Atitle%3D%22%22%2F%3E%0A%20%3Cw%3Awrap%20type%3D%22through%22%20anchorx%3D%22page%22%20anchory%3D%22page%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fv%3Ashape%3E%3C!%5Bendif%5D%2D%2D%3E{cke_protected}{C}%3C!%2D%2D%5Bif%20!vml%5D%2D%2D%3E {cke_protected}{C}%3C!%2D%2D%5Bendif%5D%2D%2D%3E reading is not only about a murder but about the end of an empire!

The New Wharf is proud to present Sweeney Todd, directed by Anthony Tringali.  An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun! What happens then? Well, that’s the play—and Sweeney wouldn’t want us to give it away…

Our local theater community has lost a great deal of talented people to cancer related illnesses over the years. Today, many individuals are still fighting cancer and undergoing treatment—even actors in our own show. All profits from this production at the Wharf Theater will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
"The Flick" By Annie Baker, Directed by Mark Englehorn

In a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35 millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world..
