It Can’t Happen Here

June 2 - 23
Can’t Happen Here"By Tony Taccone and Bennett S. Cohen, Based Upon the Novel by Sinclair Lewis

More relevant than ever before.

Lewis’ tale keeps insinuating itself into our lives because of its insight into American politics. It tells of the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the United States by promising to return the country to greatness. Sound familiar? A frightening reminder of just how fragile democracies really are.

"The Mercy Seat" by Neil LaBute Directed by Kirstin Clapp Paper Wing Theatre!

The Mercy Seat is a 2002 play by Neil LaBute. It was among the first major theatrical responses to the September 11th, 2001 attacks. Set on September 12th, it concerns Ben, a man who worked at the World Trade Center, but was away from the office during the attack with his mistress, Abby, who is also his boss.

Expecting that his family believes that he was killed in the towers collapse, Ben contemplates using the tragedy to run away and start a new life with his lover. The mercy seat continues Neil LaBute's unflinching fascination with the often brutal realities of the war between the sexes. In a time of national tragedy, the world changes overnight. A man and a woman explore the choices now available to them in an existence different from the one they had lived just the day before. Can one be opportunistic in a time of universal selflessness?

"The Secret Garden"

Jun 23 - Jul 14
The Secret Garden,  Book and Lyrics by Marsha Norman, Music by Lucy Simon,  Western Stage MAINSTAGE

An enchanting musical, based on a beloved Victorian children’s story, with a soaring musical score, this is the story of ten-year-old orphan Mary Lennox, who is sent off to the Yorkshire Highlands to live with reclusive, long-suffering relatives she has never met. Mary’s feisty and determined spirit peels away the gloomy sadness that surrounds her uncles and invalid cousin showing us the power that “one small girl” can have when she “wants things to grow.”
