The Western Stage’s SpringFEST is an annual, pre-season series of performance and production projects for students and community members, designed to provide instruction and to  improve technical and performance skills.

Season 2019's theme is "Quest" - the journeys, the pursuits, and the missions we embark upon, searching for something beyond ourselves. It highlights some of the people who have defied odds, found courage when they had none, and who broke incredible barriers. It is about quests chosen and those luring us forward. It is about the human desire to seek out and obtain what we hold most dear: truth, justice, knowledge, love, meaning.

"My Name is ..."
March 8 - 23
My Name Is....by one of our local playwrights, David Norum.  Based on a true case that David worked on  (he is a retired detective, now an accomplished playwright) about a woman's journey through an abusive relationship to redemption. Powerful and riveting, this is a premier full performance for the Monterey Bay Area.

When David Norum picked up the case that is the basis of this play, as a District Attorney Investigator, he had no idea this 1 page initial police report would take up a great amount of his last 18 months on the job. It is truly one of the most amazing and remarkable cases of his long career.

A story of a woman’s courage, perseverance and the indomitable human spirit in spite of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, as told by 16 women involved in the lives of the family, and the violence and trial.

A musical satire of the 1936 cult classic film by the same name.  The year is 1936. As the play opens, the Lecturer, a stern authority figure, informs the audience of the new drug menace, "marihuana", which threatens the American way of life. (His warnings are reinforced by the Placard Girl, who throughout the play holds up large signs that clearly state scenes' moral lessons.) From his podium, the Lecturer warns the audience that action must be taken immediately, before the Good Ol' U.S.A. succumbs to the Demon Weed ("Reefer Madness"). The Lecturer illustrates his point by re-enacting "the Harper Affair", which he claims is a true and horrific scandal.
